On one of my favourite nights of the year, very unusually, I have had nothing planned and so am sat nicely in the warm listening to the bangs and whizzes whilst my 3 little ones are tucked up warmly in their beds.Normally every year, I will make sure I at least have a small box of fireworks to do for my children, some sparklers and of course bonfire night would not be the same without toffee apples but for the very first time I have nothing, it just kind of slipped my mind. In all fairness to myself though we did go to a halloween/firework party at the weekend so my mini me's are quite satisfied with that.
So what is it that makes bonfire night and fireworks so popular?
Personally, I love having to get wrapped up warm, to me it is kind of an indicator that Christmas is just around the corner. I love the excitement in the children as they anticepate when the next firework is going to begin and watching their heads ducking each time there is a loud bang. (Luke my middle child did an extremely funny example of this at the party last weekend).
I also love toffee apples (think I may have to buy some tomorrow).
For other people it is the building of a Guy (This is not a tradition I have ever taken part in but am definately going to keep it in mind for next year as I think my children would enjoy it), or it could be the food, mushy peas and jacket potatoes to help keep everyone warm, for others it could just be that they love having the excuse to get snuggled into their someone special and watch some pretty fireworks and warm beside a nice bonfire.
Whatever it is, there is no doubt that it is an evening of fun and magic for most. A night I don't plan on missing out on again.
